The Great Escape!

This morning before leaving to go to work I was on the computer checking the news and such.

Suddenly I hear a little noise. It was just like Rocky the Raccoon living in our attic except it sounded like it was coming from much lower. Confused I listened some more. Yes, it was coming from the bottom of Kim's desk!

Then I see some movement and I think "MOUSE!?" in an alarmed and outraged mix of emotions. Except it was a very brave mouse for coming out in the open when I was there, and kind of coloured funny too... brown... with white fur on the sides.... OH MY GOD ITS STORMIE!

Sure enough, our erstwhile and domesticated drawf hamster was crawling on the floor looking for, well, I don't know, water? Food? A nest? Who knows what she was thinking the poor thing. Apparently someone left the lid off her nesting box last night after feeding her and she jumped out onto the dresser and then fell to the floor, poor thing. She seemed unhurt and unfazed when I picked her up and took her back to her home. She immediately went to the water tube and took a long drink. Exploring the house is hard thirsty work don't you know!

We're lucky she didn't find the stairs and get lost in the rest of the house, especially the warren of nooks and crannies that is the basement. And I'm glad she came to find me this morning before Kim got up and got all freaked out when she was missing.

ok, ok...I'll admit it...I was the "someone" who left the lid off Stormie's nesting box.

I blame pregnancy brain and exhaustion.

...and I also feel terrible...I keep checking to make sure she's still alive and not suffering from internal bleeding/injuries.

Let's just hope I always remember to put the sides of the cribs up when the babies are in there.
