I'm sure you heard by now the arrest of John Karr for the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey. We today find out that his DNA does not match that found at the crime scene and the charges have been dropped.
I remember last week when the news was all aghast that he was being escorted from Thailand without handcuffs, rode in first glass, and had champange! The horror! Kim expressed a common sentiment of disgust that this confessed child murderer was allowed such luxury.
"Well," I said, "he is innoccent until proven guilty you know."
"Bullcrap," she replied testily, "he confessed."
I shrugged. While I know some people have problems in the brain that make them confess to horrible things for the attention and others are browbeaten into confessions by overzealous police officers, I also knew that he was one creepy looking guy.
Creepy eyes and confessions aside, the police now think he is not responsible. In fact, his family is saying he spent that Christmas with them hundreds of miles away. This is a perfect example why we let the justice system take its course and prevent human emotion from running amok. I'm sure there are many people who would have seen John Karr executed on the spot as soon as he said the words, "I did it."
But he didn't.

I feel the need to clarify my remark to you...
Yeah, I was disgusted by the luxury shown to the confessed child-killer. Obviously, I'm not alone here.
In my head, I knew/know that just because he confessed, that didn't automatically mean he was truly guilty.
The point I meant to make was that anyone who confesses to such a heinous crime (or is simply arrested) is under suspicion of guilt. Why should such a person be given champagne and steak while sitting in first class? It's ridiculous. Of course they still have rights, but that doesn't mean that they need to be given the "best" while we wait to see whether or not they're guilty.
This is what our tax dollars go to...giving prisoners top-dollar food/drink while so many people around the world are starving?
So, shrug at me if you want...I don't care...All I know is that if it were my child, I would be horrified at the luxury given to the person who confessed to murder. ...and you know what, I think you would be too.
