Recovering

The day after I got back from Vegas I had a nasty sore throat, I was lethargic, and even had an afternoon nap which is rare for me when I am healthy. I was definitely sick with some sort of cold virus and I blame it on that crappy Terminal 2 in Chicago's O'Hare airport.

Anyway, the sore throat slowly healed and the snuffles in the sinuses dispersed such that by the end of the week I was feeling well again. Unfortunately I think the cold got passed on to the boys and Lukas took to it particularly badly.

For three nights, Friday to Sunday, Lukas had trouble sleeping. We are 90% sure it was from the mucous clogging his nose making it hard for him to breath since he doesn't know how to hork and spit or blow his nose. And he had a fever and on Sunday was looking a little pale and tired himself. Sunday night was really bad and involved a few sleepless hours for Kim and I trying to help him out so he could breath.

Sean seemed to have a bit of the snuffles too but not as bad as poor Luke.

Well they seemed to brighten up on Monday and last night had a solid 7-8 hours of sleep (or at least Kim and I did) and hopefully the cold will finish the run of its course and the boy can both get back to be bouncing bundles of joy.

Gah, Friday already?

Work has been crazy with trying to catch up on stuff that built up from the Vegas trip and also having to take on more workload since a team member moved on to another job. Hence the lack of posts.

This weekend is our main chance to do Christmas shopping. Everyone we don't buy for this weekend is getting giant Toblorone bar from the grocery store. Don't be disappointed.

Back From Vegas

The work conference in Las Vegas last week was a busy one. Every day from Monday to Thursday we were either in sessions or walking to sessions in the conference centre from 8am to 5-6pm. Our hotel was about a 35 minute walk away so supper was often not until 7 or later at night.

My co-worker and I checked out the free sights as much as possible (except on Tuesday night when I just crashed for the evening in my hotel room) and paid for tickets to see the Cirque du Soleil show Ka which was quite amazing.

The flight back was very stressful. We were supposed to fly out of Vegas at 9:43 but were over an hour late due to runway construction, meaning our connection in Chicago's O'Hare airport was tenuous at best. Like contestants on the Amazing Race we ran through the terminal from B concourse to C concourse only to arrive minutes too late to catch the plane. It was still docked through the window but they refused to open up. I hate airports.

We were able to get on a later Ottawa flight that would leave in a couple hours, but had to catch it at the E concourse in terminal 2 which was overcrowded, hot, small, and I'm sure the source of the sore throat I ended up getting on Saturday and that I'm still recovering from today.

When we got back to Ottawa late Friday night, of course our bags did not make it. The airline only had two hours to redirect them after all *sarcasm*. So I went home with my carry on bag and no clothes or toiletries. Sigh. Fortunately the airline was able to locate the luggage and send it on via delivery to my door Saturday evening.

As I mentioned, I felt under the weather Saturday with a terribly sore throat and complete lack of energy resulting in a long nap in the afternoon which I rarely do. On the upside, being sick seemed to help me overcome the three hour jet lag faster and I felt mostly back on schedule Sunday.

The boys remembered me despite being gone for the whole week. Lukas had the most interesting reaction, staring at me in wonder for about 30 seconds as if he was trying to figure out where he knew me from. Soon they both had the "daddy" neurons going and it was back to normal.

Time Crunch

Work has been crazy this week due to several factors.

1) I'm going to Las Vegas next week for a work conference, hence a lot has to be done this week.

2) I missed most of Wednesday due to the twins 6 month checkup and vaccinations and having to go downtown to pickup my passport.

3) I missed all of yesterday as Kim was ill and couldn't look after the boys. Most likely suffering from her flu shot we got when at the doctor's on Wednesday.

So don't expect normal posting to resume until Nov 17th.

Oh, and congrats to Senator Obama for winning the election. And good luck (you're going to need it!)
